Skin resurfacing with a laser at VivaSkin Dermatology and Aesthetics is a nonsurgical aesthetic treatment that uses pulsating beams of light to exfoliate damaged skin cells one layer at a time. The treatment reduces facial lines and wrinkles and improves skin flaws, such as acne scars, pigmentation, and other flaws. Also called a laser peel, fractional skin resurfacing is an effective procedure for people who want softer, clearer, younger-looking skin. Based on the condition of the patient's complexion, the treatment can be adjusted accordingly. Laser skin resurfacing is beneficial in treating melasma, brown spots, and sun damage. There is little downtime required for most laser skin resurfacing procedures. Any concerns or questions may be reviewed with Dr. Hyemin Pomerantz during the consultation.

Laser skin resurfacing is a fantastic treatment that offers our Newton, Waltham and Wellesley, MA patients a number of benefits, such as:

  • Improving skin's elasticity and firmness
  • Addressing hyperpigmentation and spots from aging
  • Reducing fine lines and wrinkles
  • Minimize appearance of pores

Who is a candidate for laser skin resurfacing?

Laser skin resurfacing is designed for patients who are unsatisfied with their general complexion. If you have sun damage, age spots, acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, redness, or pigmentation concerns, this option may be right for your needs. In addition, treatment works well if you have scaly patches, rough texture, or other irregularities. Laser skin resurfacing is not suggested for anyone with lesions or active acne outbreaks. Patients should understand that some downtime is required after undergoing a laser procedure. Some may need as much as 2 – 3 weeks to recover.

If you are scheduled for a deeper or more intense skin resurfacing session, you may be given a retinoid product for a few weeks before your laser treatment. The retinoid helps prepare the skin for better results. Medication may be prescribed before the procedure to help minimize discomfort for greater relaxation throughout your appointment. If your complexion only needs mild correction, topical anesthesia may be applied to numb certain areas where the laser will target. For the full complexion or more intense laser treatments, a form of sedation may be necessary. Throughout the procedure, you will relax in our treatment chair while the laser handpiece passes over your skin, precisely targeting the needed areas for resurfacing. You will feel the warmth from the laser, followed by cold air from the built-in cooling system. The laser is designed to eliminate damaged and dead skin cells while also stimulating new collagen growth.

Dr Pomerantz has been treating me for my Rosacea for a couple of years now and I wouldn't go to anyone else. She also recently treated some moles on my face which I was anxious about. After all, it's my face. She and her staff made me feel comfortable and confident in the treatment. My skin looks amazing and I'm so happy I found such a great Dr to put my trust in. For any skin care needs, I would definitely recommending 100%, making an appointment to see Dr Pomerantz at VivaSkin.

About Us
How much does laser skin resurfacing cost?

Your laser skin resurfacing cost will vary depending on the treatment type you get. During your consultation, Dr. Pomerantz will ask about your skin problems and desires before explaining the types of resurfacing. After this, she will help you choose your resurfacing method and discuss costs. VivaSkin Dermatology and Aesthetics may have skin treatment specials and discounted packages, so be sure to inquire about this during your appointment.

Should I get laser skin resurfacing, a chemical peel, or dermabrasion?

After listening to your issues, Dr. Pomerantz will help you choose whether laser skin resurfacing, a chemical peel, or dermabrasion treatment will achieve your goals. Although all three rejuvenate the surface of the skin, each has its own pros and cons. During your initial consultation, Dr. Pomerantz can explain each choice and make a recommendation for your treatment plan.

How often should I get laser resurfacing treatments?

Depending on the laser resurfacing method you and Dr. Pomerantz select for your procedure, you might need to wait a few weeks or even months between appointments. Deeper treatments will give you longer-lasting results; however, they will need a longer recovery period. You should talk to her about how often you are willing to return for treatments so she can consider this when recommending a type of resurfacing during your initial consultation.
